About TPA
The Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) is Sri Lanka's principal democratic political alliance representing the Indian-Origin (Malaiyaha) Tamil community, the country's fourth largest ethnic community and one of its most significant contributors to national economic development.
Who we are
Founded in 2015, TPA was formed to provide a unified political platform dedicated to advancing equal citizenship, social justice, economic opportunity, democratic participation, and national integration for the Indian-Origin Tamil community.
While rooted in the aspirations of the Indian-Origin Tamil community, TPA advocates a broader vision of democratic governance, inclusive development, economic modernisation, and national reconciliation for all Sri Lankans.
Today, TPA functions as a parliamentary political alliance with representation at national and local government levels and maintains an active presence across the country's plantation, rural, urban, and semi-urban communities.

Why TPA was formed
Despite two centuries of contribution, significant sections of the community continued to face challenges relating to land ownership, housing, education, economic mobility, access to public services, and equitable political representation. TPA was established to lead a historic transition.

A community in transition
The community is increasingly represented across business, education, public service, entrepreneurship, academia, civil society and national politics. TPA is the democratic expression of that journey.
A national, not narrow, vision
The future of the IOT community is inseparable from the future of a just, inclusive, and democratic Sri Lankan state.
Our partnership approach
Not identity politics, but citizenship, institutions and inclusion. Not short-term politics, but long-term structural transformation.
